Marques releases second ad in AL-1 race

With one month to the primary, State Rep. Rhett Marques, R-Enterprise, launched a new TV ad Tuesday in the race for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District seat.

The $240,000 ad buy is the second piece of his campaign’s media buy, which was announced earlier this month.

The 30-second ad titled “Alabama Common Sense” will run across broadcast, cable, CTV, and digital platforms in the Dothan market. It spotlights Marques’ background as a small business owner in the tire and automotive service industry.

“I’m Rhett Marques, a small business owner and a fighter for Alabama values,” Marques said in the ad. “I built my business here in the Wiregrass, creating jobs and opportunities.”

The newly released ad will run through the May 19 primary. It also features a clip of President Donald Trump speaking in the Oval Office with U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, who endorsed Marques, standing beside Trump.

Marques campaign previously released an ad called “Alabama Values”, with that buy totaling $70,000. It’s been running in Baldwin County.

In the Republican primary to fill U.S. Rep. Barry Moore’s seat, Marques is up against former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl of Mobile. Carl has maintained a slight lead in the race, according to recent polling.

In the first quarter of the year, Marques raised about $202,000 and Carl’s campaign raised roughly $242,000, according to the latest campaign finance filings.

The other GOP candidates in the AL-1 race are Jimmy Dees, Joshua McKee, John Mills, James Richardson and Austin Sidwell. Clyde Jones, Jr. is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.
