State Rep. Rhett Marques, R-Enterprise, launched his first TV ad Tuesday in his bid to represent Alabama’s 1st Congressional District.
In the 30-second ad called “Alabama Values,” Marques highlights his votes in the State House prohibiting transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports and cutting taxes.
His campaign told Alabama Daily News the ad will go live on Wednesday in Baldwin County and the buy totals more than $70,000. It will run through Election Day.
The campaign’s second ad buy will total more than $240,000 and it will run in the Dothan market. The second ad will launch on April 21 and run through the May 19 primary. That ad has yet to be released. It will appear across broadcast, cable, CTV, and digital platforms in Dothan.
“Rhett’s closing message is the same as it was when he launched this campaign: South Alabama needs a proven conservative winner who can deliver real results,” Saylor Cuzzort, campaign manager, said in a statement. “This campaign continues to gain grassroots momentum, and today’s announcement reaffirms that Rhett is on track to win this race and send President Trump a strong conservative fighter from Alabama’s First Congressional District.”
The “Alabama Values” ad spotlights Marques’ connection to U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., who has endorsed him in the race.
Marques said he will work with the senator to “deport illegal immigrants, protect Alabama families and deliver President Trump’s America First agenda” in the ad.
As the primary approaches next month, the AL-1 race is shaping up to be competitive as new polling shows Marques trailing former U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl by just 4 points.
Republicans Jimmy Dees, Joshua McKee, John Mills, James Richardson and Austin Sidwell are also vying for the seat. Democrat Clyde Jones, Jr. is also in the race.
