Wahl leads lt. gov. fundraising; Allen has most cash on hand

John Wahl, candidate for lieutenant governor, raised $220,509 in March and leads fundraising in the crowded GOP primary contest with $1.5 million raised to date.

Wes Allen, the current secretary of state, raised $211,905 in March and $1.4 million to date.

Allen’s March support included several business groups, including $50,000 from the Business Council of Alabama’s political action committee. Three PACs representing banks, builders and realtors each gave Allen $25,000.

Wahl, the former Republican Party chairman, received his largest March contribution of $50,000 from an individual.

Six weeks from the primary, Allen has the most cash on hand at $1.5 million. Wahl, who uses his given name, Nehemiah, in his campaign finance filings follows at $1.2 million.

Current agriculture commissioner Rick Pate ended March with $510,501; economic developer Nicole Wadsworth has $326,636.

Republican Patrick Bishop has nearly $4,000 and Stewart Hill Tankersley has $5,670.

Current state Rep. Phillip Ensler, D-Montgomery, is leading fundraising in that primary with $103,656.
