Tuberville raises more than $3 million in first week of campaign for governor

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has raised more than $3 million in the first week of his campaign for Alabama governor, according to his latest campaign finance report.

Since launching his gubernatorial campaign last Tuesday, Tuberville has received $3,058,312.99 in contributions for his gubernatorial bid.

The majority of his cash contributions have come from Alabama. However, some contributions on his monthly campaign finance report, filed Tuesday with the Secretary of State’s office, hail from New Jersey, South Carolina, Montana and Virginia.

The cash contributions from the past week range from $175,000 given by from Chad Witcher of Cullman and $25,000 from McGraw-Web Chevrolet in Camden to smaller donations of a hundred dollars from several individuals. The donations are from individuals and companies.

Tuberville’s campaign said last Thursday its fundraising had surpassed an Alabama record, raising $2,064,723 during the first 24 hours.

His strong war chest and name recognition will be hard to compete with in the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Kay Ivey. Ken McFeeters, who ran unsuccessfully for Alabama’s sixth congressional district seat in 2024, announced this week he’s challenging Tuberville for governor in the GOP primary. No campaign finance report is yet available for McFeeters.

Tuberville’s campaign has so far spent $6,577.08. It has $3,051,735.91 cash on hand.

“I’ve never seen momentum like this in my more than ten years in Alabama politics,” Jackie Curtiss Cox, Tuberville’s campaign fundraiser, said in a statement last Thursday on the first 24 hours of fundraising.

“Tuberville broke the Alabama fundraising record in the first 24 hours of his campaign. Importantly, these were not from PAC donations — every dollar came from small business owners, entrepreneurs, workers, and retirees.”

Statewide candidates could start fundraising a year before the primary election on May 19, 2026.
