Law enforcement coalition backs Marshall for U.S. Senate in 2026

WASHINGTON — Alabama sheriffs and district attorneys representing 33 counties endorsed Monday Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall’s campaign for U.S. Senate in 2026.

The group of 50 law enforcement officials, including 27 sheriffs and 23 district attorneys backed Marshall’s bid to fill U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s seat as he runs for governor of Alabama.

“Law enforcement officials know that Attorney General Steve Marshall has always had our backs,” Kevin Turner, Madison County sheriff, said in a statement. “We stand with him because he’ll be a leading voice for law and order and continue to support us in the U.S. Senate.”

Marshall announced his candidacy for Senate in late May, shortly after Tuberville launched his campaign for governor. Before serving as Alabama’s attorney general, Marshall was the district attorney for Marshall County for 16 years. He’s served as the state’s top law enforcement official since 2017.

“Attorney General Steve Marshall has been a tremendous partner for our district attorneys and law enforcement and I have no doubt that he will continue to fight for our Alabama values in Washington D.C as our next United States senator,” Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said in a statement.

Marshall raised more than $400,000 in the first month of his campaign.

“The courageous men and women who serve in law enforcement and as prosecutors of violent criminals deserve our complete support – now more than ever,” Marshall said in a statement. “As Alabama’s Attorney General, I have worked in partnership with our law enforcement officials across the state to keep our streets safe. Those who protect our families and neighborhoods know that I will always have their back in the United States Senate.”

Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum said Marshall understands the challenges facing rural communities in Alabama.

“I know he will be a relentless fighter for all Alabamians in Washington,” Bynum said in a statement. “That’s why I’m proud to endorse Steve Marshall as our next United States Senator.”

In the GOP primary, Marshall will face former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson. U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise, is also likely to enter the race in August after teasing an announcement. Several Democrats are also vying for the Senate seat.

The primary election is May 19.
