MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Katherine Robertson led the field in April fundraising and spending in the race to be Alabama’s next attorney general, according to campaign finance reports filed Monday.
Robertson, chief counsel to current AG Steve Marshall, brought in $362,151 last month. That includes $84,800 in money from political action committees and an individual donation of $20,000.

Former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Jay Mitchell followed Robertson with an April intake of $241,809. He brought in $45,000 from major contributions and $68,000 in PAC money.
Mitchell took in money from 10 different PACs.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey raised $19,000 in the month of April. All of that money came from individuals, except for one $3,400 contribution from a business.
Spending
Advertising dominated all three candidates’ spending in the last full month before the primary.
Robertson led the way in spending, dolling out $1.6 million, most of which was spent on advertising. Mitchell’s spending totaled $1.5 million.
Casey spent $60,300 last month, $53,100 of which was on advertising. She did not spend any money on consulting or polling in April.
Overall numbers
Robertson and Mitchell are neck-and-neck for total spending since entering the race. Robertson has poured in $3,165,700 to Mitchell’s $3,151,600 over the course of the race.
Casey has spent $126,800.
Robertson also has a slight advantage over Mitchell in total fundraising. Robertson has brought in $3,850,000 to date, while Mitchell has raised $3,826,300.
Casey has brought in $167,200.
Even after an expensive month of spending, Mitchell leads the group in cash on hand. He entered May with a war chest of $716,200.
Robertson started the month with $691,000. Casey had $550,400.
The primary is May 19.
