Two Alabama legislative incumbents defeated challengers during Tuesday’s runoff elections, and four other ballots were solidified ahead of the general election.
Senate District 2
Rudolph Valentino Drake secured the Democratic nomination for Senate District 2 with 53% of the vote. Alex House was close behind with 47% of the vote.
Drake will face Republican John Roberts in the November general election for the north Alabama seat.
Sen. Tom Butler, R-Madison, did not seek reelection.
House District 17
Phil Segraves, the five-term mayor of Guin in Marion County won the District 17 Republican runoff with 3,419, or 64% of the 5,319 votes cast. District 17 covers Lamar and Marion counties. The seat was left open after Rep. Tracy Estes, R-Winfield, did not seek reelection.
No Democrat qualified, so Segraves is effectively positioned to take the seat.
House District 37
Jeff Monroe won the District 37 Republican runoff, capturing 63% of the – votes cast, according to unofficial results posted on the Alabama Secretary of State website. The district covers Chambers, Randolph and part of northern Lee County along the eastern edge of Alabama.
Monroe will face Democrat Michelle French in the Nov. 3 election.
House District 52
GiGi Hayes defeated challenger LaTanya Millhouse in the Democratic runoff for the House District 52 seat, winning 2,127, or 75% of the 2,840 votes cast. The seat is currently held by Rep. Juandalynn Givan, D-Birmingham, who did not make the runoff.
Hayes does not have a Republican challenger and will effectively take the seat.
House District 82
Rep. Pebblin Warren, D-Tuskegee, won the runoff for District 82 with 61% of the 3,058 votes cast. The district includes all of Macon County and part of Lee County. Warren was first elected to the Alabama House in a March 8, 2005, special election.
Warren faces Republican Kinsley Hammons in the Nov. 3 general election.
House District 95
Rep. Frances Holk-Jones, R-Foley, won reelection to House District 95 Tuesday as there is no Democratic opponent in the race.
Holk-Jones captured 52% or about 3,109 votes over challenger Joe Freeman who earned 48% of the vote or 2,837 votes.
“Thank you District 95! YOU did it!,” she posted on social media declaring victory in the Baldwin County race.
The general election is Nov. 3.
