Emily Jones wins District 8 Alabama Board of Education Republican runoff

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Moms for Liberty Madison County chapter founder Emily Jones defeated William Matthews in Tuesday’s Republican runoff for the District 8 State Board of Education seat, winning 18,629 votes, or 54% of the 34,791 votes cast.

The seat was left open after two-term board member Wayne Reynolds chose not to seek reelection.

Jones carried three of the district’s four counties. She won Madison County with 52% of the 19,217 votes cast, Jackson County with 63% of 4,920 votes, and DeKalb County with 56% of 3,843 votes. In Limestone County, Matthews edged out Jones by three votes out of 6,811 cast.
