Republican candidate for Alabama secretary of state Caroleene Dobson kicked off fundraising this week by giving her campaign $500,000.
The Montgomery attorney and former congressional candidate announced her bid last week, joining Alabama Auditor Andrew Sorrell in the May GOP primary.
Campaign finance reports for candidates for state office in 2026 are due today, if they raised money last month.
Dobson hasn’t yet filed a June report, but did file a major contributions report for the $500,000 given to her campaign Tuesday. Major contribution reports have to be filed within two days of a contribution of $20,000 or more.

Sorrell’s June report shows he has nearly $314,000 on hand after receiving $63,827 in cash contributions last month. He previously loaned his campaign $250,000.
The secretary of state seat is open next year as Wes Allen is running for lieutenant governor.
