MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Did you catch Capitol Journal this week?
This summer will see the first implementation of the 2019 Literacy Act’s retention element, which could see thousands of third grade students in Alabama be held back were they not to demonstrate grade-level reading sufficiency by the end of the summer.
To discuss this and more, we sit down with Rep. Terri Collins, R-Decatur, to speak on the state’s recent progress on 3rd grade reading and other education issues.
Jeremy Walker of the Alabama Association of Realtors also joins to discuss the latest economic indicators from an improving real estate market. David Walters of the Alabama Community College System joins as well to discuss the various ways Alabama’s two-year schools are helping get more Alabamians trained for good paying jobs.
We also touch on the recent passage of the National Defense Authorization Act, the annual military spending bill, in the U.S. House, and what Alabama’s D.C. delegation is saying about it.
