MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Friday marks nine years since Gov. Kay Ivey first took the oath of office and was sworn in as governor on April 10, 2017. As she finished her final legislative session as governor, lawmakers saw fit to honor her as the state has previous governors by naming a Capitol Complex building after her.
The building southwest of the Capitol housing the attorney general’s office is now named the Kay Ivey Office Building. The naming was made official Thursday by the Alabama Building Renovation Finance Authority after the Legislature passed a joint resolution urging the renaming.
Other office buildings in the complex have been named for governors. The massive building housing the Alabama Department of Education is named for former Gov. Gordon Persons. The Folsom administrative building behind the Capitol is named for former Gov. Jim “Big Jim” Folsom. And the building that houses the Medicaid agency is named for Alabama’s first female governor, Gov. Lurleen Wallace.
