Allen, Pate have $100K-plus July in lieutenant gov. race

The two frontrunners in the GOP contest to be the next Alabama lieutenant governor remained close in fundraising in July, with Wes Allen earning a slight edge.

Allen, the current Alabama secretary of state, raised about $139,000 last month, according to his monthly campaign finance report. He ended July with nearly $390,000 in his account. The largest donations were $10,000 from individuals.

Rick Pate, the current commissioner of agriculture and industries, raised $100,536 and ended the month with $347,592. His largest donation was $12,000 from the Alabama Poultry and Egg Association’s political action committee.

Pate is term-limited in his current office, Allen is a first-term secretary of state who previously served in the Alabama House of Representatives.

They’re in a five-person field seeking to replace Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, who is term limited.

North Alabama business owner Nicole Wadsworth loaned her campaign last month $100,000 and raised about $10,000.

Republicans Dean Odle, with about $12,500 on hand, and Patrick Bishop, about $850, round out the field.
