Capitol Journal – June 19, 2026

Did you catch Capitol Journal this week?

With the runoff elections in the books, we take you on the campaign trail to hear from the winners of Tuesdays contests. Voter turnout was disappointingly but unsurprisingly low. Randy Scott takes a look into some of the reasons why. The state has launched a major crackdown of Kramton, a drug sometimes sold at gas stations. Jeff Sanders has that story. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville is playing a key role in the debate over how to reform college athletics in the era of NIL and the transfer portal. Alex Angle has that story from Washington.

Joining us in studio this week, Dr. Richard Bailey discusses the history of Juneteenth both nationally and here in Alabama. Sally Smith of the Alabama Association of School Boards looks back at her nearly forty years of education advocacy upon her retirement. And Melanie Poole and Natalie Steed from the American Village join us to preview the upcoming big Fourth of July events coming up in just a few weeks.
