Crypto super PAC pumps $5M into GOP primary to support Moore

WASHINGTON — Defend American Jobs, a Republican affiliate of crypto super PAC Fairshake, will spend $5 million to boost Rep. Barry Moore’s U.S. Senate bid in Alabama.

The five-week campaign will begin this week with a new ad highlighting President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Moore, Fairshake announced in a news release. The ad will air on TV, streaming and Fox News Channel.

“Barry Moore will protect American jobs and champion innovation,” the super PAC said in a statement. “We are proud to stand with Barry Moore, a leader who will fight for economic growth and make America the crypto capital.”

Defend American Jobs is part of Fairshake’s network of super PACs that “supports candidates committed to securing the United States as the home to innovators building the next generation of the internet,” according to its website.

Fairshake also has a Democratic-affiliated super PAC, called Protect Progress. That organization shelled out about $2.4 million for Rep. Shomari Figures, D-Mobile, in his 2024 campaign for Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, according to Open Secrets.

Stand with Crypto, an advocacy group, ranked Moore, R-Enterprise, as “strongly supportive” of crypto. The group notes that the congressman voted for the CLARITY Act, which establishes a regulatory framework for digital commodities and for the GENIUS Act that creates a framework for stablecoins.

In January, Sen. Cynthia Lummis, R-W.Y., a leading proponent of cryptocurrency in Congress, endorsed Moore’s Senate bid.

“He has been a consistent defender of sound money, blockchain innovation, and the right of Americans to control their own assets,” Lummis said in a statement endorsing the Alabama Republican.

Writing in a social media post from December, Moore said, “Crypto is not a fad. It is part of our future. It is part of Alabama’s future.”

In 2024, Moore bought bitcoin worth between $1,001 and $15,000, according to Quiver Quantitative, which tracks members of Congress’ holdings.

Super PACs can solicit and spend unlimited amounts of money, but can’t work directly with candidates’ campaigns.

Other Alabama Republican U.S. Senate candidates, including Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, are also deemed “strongly supportive” of crypto, according to the Stand with Crypto analysis.

The primary is less than 100 days away now on May 19.
