WASHINGTON – Congressman Barry Moore is set to make a “BIG” announcement in August amid growing speculation that he will launch a bid for U.S. Senate.
Moore, R-Enterprise, posted on social media recently that he will make an announcement on Aug. 15 at an event in Sylvania. The city is not located within Alabama’s First Congressional District, which Moore currently represents in Congress, adding to the speculation that he will enter the race to fill U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s seat. Tuberville is running for Alabama governor. Moore said Sylvania is his wife Heather’s hometown.
“It’s going to be exciting,” Moore told Alabama Daily News. “We’ve had a lot of people call us so without divulging too much, I just encourage everybody to show up and see what it’s going to be.”

Moore previously told Alabama Daily News he was praying about his next steps and said he was “honored to be in the conversation” of potential candidates who could run to represent Alabama in the U.S. Senate in 2026.
Moore successfully ran against former Rep. Jerry Carl, R-Mobile, in a competitive GOP primary that pitted two representatives against each other. Moore won 51.7% of the vote to represent the newly redrawn First Congressional District in south Alabama in 2024. Moore previously represented Alabama’s Second Congressional District for two terms, beginning in 2021.
Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall launched his Senate bid in May shortly after Tuberville announced his gubernatorial run. He released a campaign video titled “Alabama Strong.” Former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson is also running for the open Senate seat in the Republican primary.
Several Democrats have also filed to run for the Senate seat, including Mobile businessman Kyle Sweetser.
The 2026 primary is May 19.
