30 mayors endorse Wes Allen in lieutenant governor race

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Thirty mayors from across the state of Alabama have endorsed Wes Allen in his bid to become Alabama’s next lieutenant governor.

Allen, the current secretary of state, is one of seven Republicans in a crowded primary field

“I am honored to have the support of mayors from across the state,” Allen said in a news release. “Mayors want what is best for their municipalities, for their state and for their country. They know that I will work hard each and every day as Lt. Governor to put Alabama first.”

The mayors supporting Allen are:

The Alabama Farmers Federation’s FarmPAC and the Business Council of Alabama’s ProgressPAC have also endorsed Allen.

Campaign finance

John Wahl, former Alabama Republican Party chair, raised $220,509 in March and leads fundraising in the GOP primary contest with $1.5 million raised, according to March campaign finance reports.

Allen raised $211,905 in March and has taken in $1.4 million over the course of his campaign.

Allen’s March support included several business groups, including $50,000 from the Business Council of Alabama’s political action committee. Three PACs representing banks, builders and realtors each gave Allen $25,000.

Wahl received his largest March contribution of $50,000 from an individual. 

As of the beginning of April, Allen had the most cash on hand at $1.5 million. Wahl, who uses his given name, Nehemiah, in his campaign finance filings followed at $1.2 million.

Current Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate ended March with $510,501; economic developer Nicole Jones Wadsworth had $326,636.

Republican Patrick Bishop had nearly $4,000 and Stewart Hill Tankersley had $5,670.

Current state Rep. Phillip Ensler, D-Montgomery, is leading fundraising in that primary with $103,656.The primary is May 19.

The deadline to register to vote is May 4.
