William Filmore promoted to vice chancellor at Troy

William Filmore is the new vice chancellor of government and external relations at Troy University.

The promotion comes after Filmore spent the last year leading the university’s efforts in the State House as director of government relations. Prior to that, he ran Gov. Kay Ivey’s legislative shop.

Troy Chancellor Jack Hawkins pointed to the university’s recent legislative success under Filmore’s leadership as a key factor.

“William has already proven he can represent Troy University well with many external stakeholders during his tenure here. He is a servant leader who is willing to assume new and additional responsibilities,” said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor. “William will continue to excel in his new role by helping nurture current partnerships while also creating new opportunities with both public and private individuals and entities in the State of Alabama and beyond.”

According to the release announcing Filmore’s promotion, Filmore helped secure Troy’s largest budget increase in more than a decade and the largest total fiscal year state appropriation ever.

“Our success over the last year has truly been a team effort, and we are very thankful for the support we have received from government leaders in both Montgomery and Washington D.C.,” Filmore said. “I am very thankful for this new opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to help the University grow its list of supporters and stakeholders alongside the talented and experienced team we have at Troy University.”

Filmore has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and MBA from Troy. He was president of Troy’s Student Government Association.
