University of Alabama increases tuition at system campuses

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has approved a tuition increase at all of the Tuscaloosa school’s campuses.

System spokeswoman Kellee Reinhart says the increases approved Friday are needed to pay for new projects and programs, as well as keep salaries and facilities competitive. News outlets reports in-state tuition will increase by 2.9 percent at the Birmingham campus and 4 percent at the Huntsville campus.

Starting this fall, in-state students will pay $4,284 and $4,856 per semester, respectively. In-state students at the System’s flagship campus in Tuscaloosa won’t see an increase. Out-of-state students at all campuses will see about a 4 percent increase in tuition
