Tuberville raises more than $1M in August

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, frontrunner in the GOP contest for governor next year, took in more than $1 million in campaign contributions last month. He’s collected more than $6 million since announcing his candidacy in May.

“When I was coaching, I learned that you can’t win without a good team,” Tuberville said in a written statement Wednesday. “With President Trump back in the White House, the sky is the limit for Alabama. But Suzanne and I can’t do it alone. We are grateful for every hardworking Alabamian who has supported our campaign and look forward to continuing to work together to bring this home next November.”

Tuberville in August collected 11 major contributions totaling $340,000. Those contributions came from individuals or businesses. Tuberville won’t accept money from political action committees, his campaign recently told Alabama Daily News.

Smaller donations last month totaled nearly $668,000.

His campaign spent about $334,000 in August, mostly on consultants.

Tuberville had more than $5.4 million on hand, according to the latest campaign data available.

On the Democrats’ side, Chad “Chin” Martin and Will Boyd are gearing up for a May 19 primary.
