Gov. Kay Ivey has set a special election for Alabama House District 12. Three-term Republican Corey Harbison resigned from the Cullman County seat earlier this month.
Ivey set the special primary election for July 15. A special primary runoff, if needed, is Aug. 12. The special general election is Oct. 28.
Whoever wins it will almost immediately have to run in the 2026 regular election cycle when every seat in the Legislature is on the ballot.
The deadline for qualifying with major political parties is May 13. The deadline for all independent candidates and/or minor parties is July 15.
Harbison is the second lawmaker from Cullman County to resign this year. Randall Shedd stepped down earlier this year to work for Speaker Pro Tem Garland Gudger. The special primary for House District 11 is May 13.
