Campaign finance reports show Republican candidates for Congress Dick Brewbaker and Caroleene Dobson amassing the most money in late 2023, with $341,726 and $311,335, respectively.
On the Democrat side of the Alabama Second District ticket, Rep. Anthony Daniels and Shomari Figures led fundraising in the crowded contest for the newly redrawn district.
Both kicked off their campaigns with significant loans.
Brewbaker’s total includes a $300,000 personal loan. He was also the biggest GOP campaign spender at $131,523.
Dobson loaned her campaign $250,000.
Republican state Sen. Greg Albritton raised $126,085, $50,000 of which he loaned his campaign.
The reporting deadline was Wednesday for the quarterly campaign activity that ended Dec. 31.
In the new District 2 includes parts of the Mobile, the Wiregrass and all of Montgomery County, Rep. Anthony Daniels raised a total of $217,233 and spent about $50,557. Shomari Figures raised more than $203,000 and spent about $54,200 last year.
Farther south in the First District, last year’s court-ordered redrawing of the congressional map forced GOP incumbents Rep. Jerry Carl of Mobile and Rep. Barry Moore of Enterprise into a face-off. Carl led the cash contest in the last quarter.
Carl had $869,297 coming into the fourth quarter and the map finalization. He raised $546,351 in the fourth quarter, giving him about $1.14 million going into 2024.
Moore had $647,275 going into the quarter, raised another $173,189 and had $693,529 on hand at the end of the year.
The primary elections are March 5.
