Josh Pendergrass announces run for state auditor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Josh Pendergrass, an attorney, pastor and former communications director for Gov. Kay Ivey, has announced his candidacy for state auditor.

Pendergrass, who lives in Prattville, said he wants to bring more transparency and accountability to the auditor’s office, which is responsible for tracking state-owned property and helping ensure taxpayer dollars are protected.

He said his platform includes championing government transparency, advancing former President Donald Trump’s America First agenda, strengthening voter integrity, and putting Alabama first.

“In Montgomery, the path to accountability is clear: tell the truth, stand firm, and never bow to political games,” Pendergrass said in a news release. “With President Trump’s bold vision as my guide, I’ll fight relentlessly to cut government waste, protect taxpayer dollars, and restore trust in our institutions.

I’m running to ensure our state leads with transparency, fiscal discipline, and an unshakable commitment to putting Alabama first.”

Pendergrass founded the Pendergrass Law Firm in Albertville in 2011 and has represented clients in family and juvenile law cases. He previously worked as communications director in Ivey’s administration and has served on multiple legislative and statewide campaigns.

Current State Auditor Andrew Sorrell is not seeking reelection as he is running for Secretary of State.

Other declared Republican candidates include Derek Chen and Robert McCollum.

Pendergrass and his wife, Leslie Brown, live in Prattville with their children.
