MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Gov. Kay Ivey has announced more than $3.6 million of state funding for 11 local road improvement projects.
The Alabama Department of Transportation grants come from a program created by a $0.10 gas tax increase in 2019. That uptick, called the Rebuild Alabama Act, requires the state to reserve $10 million of gas tax revenue for local projects annually.
The grants announced earlier this week made up the second round of funding this year. The state will award more funding later in 2026.
The projects include road resurfacing, bridge construction and drainage improvements.
“Strong, safe and reliable infrastructure is one of the reasons our state attracts record-breaking investments and jobs,” Ivey said. “Rebuild Alabama is delivering lasting improvements, ensuring we have the strong transportation network needed to support our growing economy and those who drive our roads and bridges. We are keeping our foot on the gas and will continue to invest in infrastructure that serves every corner of Alabama.”
Cities and counties also matched more than $1.5 million in local funds for the awarded projects. Those projects must advance within one year of the grants.
