U.S. Rep. Barry Moore is officially running for Congress, he announced Tuesday morning.
“I’m running for Senate because the people of Alabama deserve a Trump conservative and a working man who will defend their freedoms,” the third-term Congressman said in a written statement. He joins current Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and veteran Jared Hudson in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor.
“As the first elected official in the country to endorse President Trump, I will have his back and defend the MAGA agenda in the Senate, just like I have as a member of the Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives,” Moore said. “We have a lot to do in Washington to help President Trump get our country back on track, and my record shows I’ll never clock out when there is work to be done. It’s time to fight and advance the America First agenda.”
Moore will kick off his campaign Friday at an event in DeKalb County, where his wife, Heather Moore, grew up.
“I’m proud of my record of fighting for our military families, cutting taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, defending our 2nd Amendment freedoms, preventing the indoctrination of our kids with the Democrat trans agenda, protecting our unborn children, and eliminating government waste,” Moore said in today’s statement. “As the owner of a waste removal company, I know how to take out the trash in Washington, and that’s exactly what I’ll do in the U.S. Senate.”
Moore’s announcement is expected to set off a cascade of other announcements. Former Congressman Jerry Carl, who lost to Moore last year when redistricting forced them into the same district and a battle of GOP incumbents, has filed to run for the seat he held for two terms. He’s expected to make an official announcement next week.
And Alabama House member Rep. Rhett Marques last week told Alabama Daily News he was considering a bid, should Moore leave the seat.
