MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama Farmers Federation’s FarmPAC has released an updated slate of endorsed candidates ahead of the general election.
The group announced endorsements of John Wahl for lieutenant governor, Andrew Sorrell for state auditor and Jim Zeigler for Public Service Commission, place 2.
Federation President Jimmy Parnell said that Wahl, Sorrell and Zeigler – who all defeated FarmPAC-backed candidates in the runoff – met with PAC executive trustees and county leaders during the spring and summer months.
“We are pleased to support these public servants,” Parnell said. “All three have invested time in getting to know our members and understanding the challenges and opportunities facing farmers, timber owners and rural families. We look forward to working with them to move Alabama forward.”
Parnell also expressed concern over the low voter participation in the May 19 primary, June 16 runoff and Aug. 11 special congressional primary. Those elections had turnout rates of 23.16% , 10.74% and 5.24%, respectively.
“Voter apathy, particularly among conservatives, has made Alabama a target for far-left, national groups seeking to gain a foothold in the southern U.S. Challenging economic times and media reports have motivated liberal voters while many conservatives have stayed home,” Parnell said. “I’m convinced the majority of Alabama voters support family values, smaller government, lower taxes and less regulation, but we have to make our voices heard Nov. 3. The future of our state and nation depends on it.”
FarmPAC’s candidates fared well in the primary, with 41 of 51 endorsed candidates winning their primary outright or advancing to a runoff. Additional endorsements come because the PAC did not support a candidate in the primary or runoff elections. Alabama FarmPAC’s full group of endorsements for the general election includes:

One asterisk indicates a changed endorsement, while two represent FarmPAC’s first endorsement in the race.
The general election is on Nov. 3. The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 19.
