MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is looking for information from the public after a makeshift barge carrying fireworks caught fire on Lake Martin on Saturday night.
The vessel did not have a motor attached and was anchored in place when it caught fire at around 8:45 p.m. on Independence Day. It was being used as a platform for launching fireworks near the Tallassee Slough on the Elmore County side of the lake.
ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division is seeking details about the owner of the vessel and the incident itself. Anyone with information should contact the division at [email protected].
Last 4th of July, six people were injured during a similar incident involving a floating barge launching fireworks. ALEA did not say if this year’s barge fire led to any injuries.
