POINT CLEAR, Ala. — The beloved Sister Schubert sausage wrap rolls are making a triumphal return to Alabama grocery stores soon.
Marzetti, the parent company of Alabama-based Sister Schubert, announced the return of the ever-popular snack at the Business Council of Alabama’s annual conference in Point Clear on Saturday.
The iconic rolls will be back on Publix shelves in just a few weeks, Clarence Mingo, the vice president of corporate affairs and government relations of Marzetti, told the thrilled crowd. The company has a bakery in Luverne.
The announcement came in response to a posed question from “Kay Ivey of Camden” during the Paul Finebaum business recruiting panel, where she asked, “How quickly can we get them back on the shelves?”
In the five years since the item was removed from shelves and replaced by sausage pinwheels, the governor isn’t the only Alabamian who’s been asking that question.
“I’d be the wealthiest man in Alabama if I had a nickel for every time you know that question was asked,” Mingo said. “We as an organization completely appreciate that our family here in Alabama and Americans across the South miss Sister Schubert’s sausage roll.”
But attendees didn’t have to wait a few weeks to sink their teeth into the sausage wrap rolls as waiters quickly rolled out the product as an end-of-conference treat.
Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Birmingham, had one word to describe the roll’s return.
“Awesome,” and it’s safe to say that sentiment was shared across the board.
After the Publix rollout, the rolls will also return to other Alabama grocery stores in the coming months.
