MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Tommy Tuberville for governor campaign on Thursday announced it has formed a transition team ahead of the November election.
Dubbed the “Golden Age Action Team,” the group of nine will be tasked to review the operations of state government and make recommendations for changes should Tuberville prevail and assume the governor’s office.
In a press release announcing the team, Tuberville said he doesn’t want to wait until the election is over to get started with planning.
“Most politicians wait until they win to start figuring out how to deliver on what they promised,” said Tuberville said. “We’re not going to spend our first year holding meetings and making excuses. We’re going to walk in prepared and ready to win on day one.”
The team includes Tuberville Chief of Staff Jordan Doufexis, Mobile political consultant Jonathan Gray, Montgomery attorney Gibson Vance, health care entreprenuer Jim McLane, tax consultant Chad Witcher, Birmingham attorney Loree Skelton, retired oilman Bruce Culpepper, businessman Kyle Burt and trucking magnate Reid Dove.
Tuberville noted that there are no lobbyists, legislators or former elected officials in the group.
“This is a team of heavy hitters. And each and every member is an Alabamian with deep roots in our state.”
Doufexis, who will lead the group, said their directive is to find waste and duplication within state government.
“We are not coming to Montgomery to maintain the status quo,” Doufexis said. “We’re going to ask the hard questions, make the tough recommendations, and give Coach a plan to clean up the place.”
Tuberville, who currently serves as Alabama’s senior U.S. senator, faces Democratic nominee for governor Doug Jones in the Nov. 2 general election.
