The Alabama Farmers Federation endorsed U.S. Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise, Thursday for U.S. Senate, after previously backing Attorney General Steve Marshall in the race.
The FarmPAC backing can often make a big difference in Alabama campaigns, particularly in the GOP primary. But the group’s previous endorsement of Marshall was not enough to move the needle for his campaign this year. Marshall finished third in the May primary and did not advance to the Senate runoff, which will include Moore and ex-Navy SEAL Jared Hudson.
But the federation’s endorsement of U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville in his 2020 Senate bid has been widely credited with catapulting him to the head of a crowded field that year.
“From his time in the Alabama House to serving Alabama in the nation’s capital, Barry has kept people at the forefront of his work,” Federation President Jimmy Parnell said.
“He’s stood strong on tough issues and remembered the people who elected him. Barry understands the challenges our farm and rural communities face and has continually proven that during his tenure on the House Ag Committee. He is poised to be a fighter for Alabama in the U.S. Senate.”
Moore, who President Donald Trump also endorsed, said he looked forward to advocating for Alabama producers in Washington.
“In Congress, I’ve pushed back on federal overreach, supported efforts to expand market access and worked to keep family farms in business for the next generation. That work won’t stop when I get to the Senate,” Moore said.
Since the runoff was finalized, Moore’s campaign also announced endorsements from two former U.S. Senate Republican candidates, Seth Burton and Rodney Walker.
The runoff is June 16.
