WASHINGTON — Republicans Rhett Marques and Jerry Carl, who are vying for the open Alabama First Congressional District in 2026, raised more than $494,000 and $320,000, respectively, through the end of September, according to the latest campaign finance reports.
The GOP primary race to replace Rep. Barry Moore, R-Enterprise, who is running for U.S. Senate, is shaping up to be competitive.
Since launching his bid on Aug. 18, Carl raised $320,600 through the end of the third quarter, running from July to September. Carl received support from 1,200 individual donors, his campaign told Alabama Daily News.
He has $329,501 cash on hand. Carl previously held the AL-1 seat before Moore won a tight primary in 2024. The Alabama Republican received $49,000 in contributions from political action committees, including from the University of South Alabama and Vulcan Materials. The other $271,600 contributions came from individuals.
U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-LA, contributed to Carl’s campaign in the third quarter. He also received support from Rep. Dale Strong, R-Huntsville, whose campaign contributed $2,000. Carl also received $5,000 from Rep. Tom Cole’s, R-OK, leadership PAC.
Carl spent $55,004 during Q3.
Marques has raised $494,462 from Aug. 21, when he launched his bid for the south Alabama congressional seat, through the end of September. His campaign announced Tuesday that Marques crossed the $500,000 threshold for contributions this week.
Out of his total contributions for Q3, $42,000 came from political action committees and $452,462 came from individuals. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and the National Automobile Dealers Association contributed to his campaign.
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., contributed $10,000 from her Alabama First leadership PAC. Marques also received $10,000 from Sen. Tom Cotton’s leadership PAC and $1,000 from Sen. Chuck Grassley’s, R-IA, leadership PAC.
The GOP state lawmaker has $490,014 cash on hand. Marques spent $4,448 in the third quarter.
The primary is May 19.
