Second arrest made in Downtown Montgomery shooting

The Montgomery Police Department made a second arrest Monday in the Oct. 4 downtown shooting that killed two and injured 12.

Dantavious McGhee, 19, is charged with one count of capital murder, nine counts of assault in the first degree and three counts of assault in the second degree.

McGhee was taken Monday to the Montgomery County Detention Facility.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed said Monday the city is committed to finding all those involved in the mass shooting during a busy weekend in the city’s downtown.

“We are still pursuing others connected to this horrific shooting, and I want to thank the Montgomery Police Department — along with our local, state, and federal partners — for their relentless work to bring these suspects to justice,” Reed said in a written statement. “Their dedication proves that violence will not define Montgomery — nor will it go unanswered.”

Police arrested a juvenile male last week. His name has not been released. He was charged with capital murder and 12 counts of assault.

Police have said rival gunmen opened fire on each other late Saturday night, leading to the deaths of a 43-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, police said. Investigators determined that multiple people fired weapons in a crowd just after the Tuskegee University-Morehouse College rivalry football game ended blocks away.
