The entire Capitol complex in downtown Montgomery has been barricaded off with multiple layers of security, as a combination of city and state police prepare for protests associated with Inauguration Day on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Mayor Steven Reed said Montgomery police have been coordinating with state and federal authorities to prevent and respond to any violent activities. Multiple layers of security perimeters have been set up around the Capitol and large signs warning of laws against carrying firearms to public events are posted along the barriers.
Several city streets are closed as well as schools located near the downtown area.
In Montgomery, no organized protest has materialized thus far. However, other capital cities are starting to see them.
