Nick Lawkis is the new vice president for governmental relations at the University of South Alabama.
Lawkis became the office’s executive director in 2019 and will continue to act as a liaison between the university and state and federal government offices.
“Nick Lawkis is one of the most respected governmental relations professionals in Alabama,” said USA President Jo Bonner. “He has elevated South’s profile both in Montgomery and Washington D.C. and has earned this promotion with his hard work and dedication to our university.”
Lawkis has helped secure close to $400 million in funding for the university and USA health, according to the press release announcing his promotion.
“Our successes have truly been a collaborative effort by many and especially because of our relationships with our elected and government officials,” Lawkis said. “I am humbled by the recognition and extremely grateful to President Bonner and Executive Vice President and Provost Andi Kent for this opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to advance the vision and mission of the flagship of the Gulf Coast.”
Lawkis has an undergraduate degree in business administration and a master’s in public administration from USA.
He’d previously worked in the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and Office of Student Affairs.
