New Byrne ad highlights Trump support, Alabama roots

By TODD STACY, Alabama Daily News

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Congressman Bradley Byrne, R-Mobile, is up on the air with his first television ad of his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

The spot highlights Byrne’s record of voting in favor of President Donald Trump’s favored positions on legislation as well as Byrne’s family roots in Alabama.

“I won’t allow the Left to remove our President. I’ve spent my life righting wrongs, and Washington is next,” Byrne says in the ad.

The Byrne campaign would not say which media markets the ad is running in or how much is being spent on the buy, only that it is a “major and sustained buy across the state.”

The only publicly-available polling with numbers broken down by market came from the Tommy Tuberville campaign in August. Those numbers showed Byrne’s largest ballot test deficits in the North Alabama markets of Huntsville and Birmingham, while he performed exceedingly well in his home market of Mobile. Club for Growth, a Washington political group supporting Jeff Sessions in the race, recently tried to eat into Byrne’s advantage in South Alabama by running attack ads in the Mobile market.

Seth Morrow, campaign manager for Byrne, said their team was “excited to introduce more voters across the state to Bradley Byrne – a Christian, conservative who votes with President Trump 97% of the time.”

Morrow also took a veiled shot at Sessions, the former occupant of the seat who was forced out as U.S. Attorney General by Trump more than a year ago amid their disagreements over Sessions’ recusal from the Russia investigation.

“Bradley’s record as a fighter is a strong contrast with a field of candidates who missed their opportunity to fight the liberal agenda or ran away when the going got tough.”
