Miss Alabama is the new Miss America.
Abbie Stockard, 22, won the $50,000 scholarship contest and crown Sunday in Orlando. She is a nursing student and dance team member at Auburn University.
Stockard is from Birmingham and a 2021 Vestavia High School graduate.
“Tonight, a new Miss America will be crowned,” Stockard wrote on her Instagram account prior to Sunday’s competition. “As I step into this evening, I am filled with excitement, honor, and gratitude. Thanking the Lord for placing me here this week and giving me one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Regardless of the outcome, I want to express my deepest thanks to my friends, family, the amazing Miss Alabama board, and the wonderful people of Alabama for making me feel so appreciated and loved. I hope I’ve made you proud and represented you well.”
According to her website, Stockard is an advocate to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and an aspiring pediatric nurse anesthetist.
Gov. Kay Ivey congratulated Stockard on social media Sunday evening.
