Mary Sell to join Alabama Daily News for 2019 Regular Session

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Veteran Capitol News Corps reporter Mary Sell will be joining Alabama Daily News as a reporter and editor for the 2019 Regular Session.

Sell is well known as one of the best and most experienced State House reporters, having covered the Alabama Legislature for  The Decatur Daily and The Florence Times Daily. Sell was also a business reporter for The Montgomery Advertiser.

“I’m excited to be part of this new team focused on getting State House coverage to local newspapers and outlets,” Sell said. “I’ve watched with concern as the number of capitol press corp members dwindled in recent years. What happens in Montgomery — from tax and fee increases to education funding — has a huge and direct impact on Alabamians and I’m glad to again be writing about the proposals and decision makers in the Legislature.”

Beginning this year, Alabama Daily News is offering a Capitol News Service that will provide high-quality, localized content from the State House for news outlets statewide. Newspapers and television stations subscribing to the service will have access to daily stories on legislative action, plus weekly deep dives and commentary from the Alabama Daily News team.

Alabama Daily News Publisher Todd Stacy said Sell is the perfect addition to make service work.

“Anyone who knows anything about journalism in Alabama knows Mary is one of the best in the business and we couldn’t be prouder to have her aboard, Stacy said.

“My goal all along with Alabama Daily News has been to help change the Alabama media landscape for the better. Part of that is reversing the trend of a dwindling Capitol News Corps, particularly with regional outlets.

“I’m confident that papers and stations that subscribe to our service will be pleased about the quality and localized nature of the content we are providing for their readers and viewers.”

News outlets interested in subscribing to the ADN Capitol News Service should contact Stacy by email at [email protected].
