Cullman Co. lawmaker resigns

Corey Harbison, an Alabama House member since 2014, resigned this week. The Republican from Hanceville in Cullman County turned in a one-sentence resignation letter to leadership on Tuesday.

An attempt to reach Harbison Wednesday evening was not successful.

Alabama Political Reporter on Wednesday reported Harbison, who represented House District 12, wanted to spend more time with his young children. It also reported that he’s missed most of this session and much of the 2024 session.

Gov. Kay Ivey will call a special election to fill the seat representing a portion of Cullman County later this year. Whoever wins it will almost immediately have to run in the 2026 regular election cycle when every seat in the Legislature is on the ballot.
