We have a special episode of Capitol Journal this week.
We filmed on location in Birmingham where dozens of the state’s leading jurists gathered for an event marking the 50th anniversary of Alabama ratifying a reformed judicial article in the Constitution.
Prior to this reform, the state’s court system was known as the ‘Wild West,’ with chronic inefficiencies and injustices. Then-Chief Justice Howell Heflin and a cadre of young political leaders set out to change that in a unique political effort.
We documented the event and I sat down for interviews with Tom Heflin, Mike House, former Supreme Court Justice Champ Lyons and current Supreme Court Justice Greg Cook.
