Camp Hill man arrested after threat to Central Alabama VA hospital

A Tallapoosa County man was arrested Wednesday for making a threatening call to the federal Central Alabama Veterans Medical Center in Montgomery. The call prompted a lockdown of the facility.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said the center received the call on a crisis hotline around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation responded to assist with the lockdown and search for the suspect, the agency said in a written statement.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Michael Barnett, 61, at his home in Camp Hill.

He’s been charged with making terroristic threats and rendering false alarm to a hospital.

Barnett was booked into the Montgomery County Jail with an $18,000 bond. He was still in jail Thursday morning, according to online records.

A statement from the city of Montgomery Wednesday said no one was injured and city police were assisting with the investigation.

Findings will be turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
