Britt endorses Tuberville for governor

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., threw her support today to her fellow GOP senator, Tommy Tuberville, in his bid to be Alabama’s next governor.

“I’m excited to endorse my friend and colleague, Senator Tommy Tuberville, to serve as the next governor of our great state,” Britt said in a statement released by Tuberville’s campaign. “From strengthening K-12 education and modernizing workforce development to growing good-paying jobs and investing in local infrastructure, we share the mission of putting Alabama First. Coach’s strong conservative leadership will serve all Alabamians well in Montgomery. I look forward to continuing to fight for Alabama’s people, priorities, and values alongside Governor Tuberville.”

Tuberville is the only major Republican candidate in the 2026 contest after current Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth stepped aside last month. Gov. Kay Ivey is term limited.

Less than a month after his official announcement, Tuberville’s campaign has raised more than $3.3 million, according to finance records.

“I am grateful to be endorsed by my friend and colleague, Sen. Katie Britt,” Tuberville said. “Katie and I have been fighting for Alabama every day over the past several years in the Senate, and I know we will continue working together when I’m back home in Montgomery. Together, we will make sure Alabama is not just a great place to live, but the very best place to call home.”

Tuberville has also received endorsements from trade organizations in the state including Alabama Grocers Association, Manufacture Alabama, and the Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama.

Official qualifying for 2026 contests will happen later this year. Primaries are May 19.
