BESSEMER, Ala. (AP) — Police say an Alabama lawmaker’s son has been arrested on drug charges in an early-morning raid of his family’s home.
Bessemer Police Chief Mike Roper tells news outlets 26-year-old Anthony Terry Jr. was arrested Thursday. He was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance – marijuana. State Rep. Louise Alexander is Terry’s mother.
Roper says the raid followed a three-month investigation that’s still ongoing. Police say Alexander was at the home but wasn’t a target of the raid and hasn’t been implicated in any crime.
The Democratic lawmaker called the raid a political witch hunt. Alexander has said her daughter Kimberly Alexander was the target of a threat last week. Kimberly Alexander is running for a Bessemer City Council seat.
It’s unclear if Terry has a lawyer to comment.
