MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama House Speaker Mac McCutcheon has been hospitalized for a cardiac procedure after being diagnosed with a heart problem.
A statement released Friday by the speaker’s office says a doctor recommended a heart catheterization for McCutcheon after tests showed he had a blocked blood vessel.
The statement says the problem was causing fatigue and shortness of breath. McCutcheon also had mild chest pains and was driven to an emergency room for an examination.
McCutcheon underwent heart bypass surgery in 2014. The statement says he expects to be released from a hospital following treatment over the weekend.
McCutcheon is a Republican from Capshaw in north Alabama.
