MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Reid Harris will take over as the Alabama Republican Party’s executive director, the ALGOP announced this week.
Harris is no stranger to politics, with previous stints as deputy general counsel to Gov. Kay Ivey, assistant attorney general in the AG’s constitutional defense division and judicial law clerk for U.S. District Judge Harold Albritton. He most recently served as general counsel for Nashville-based BHA Strategy.
The announcement is the latest in a series of party leadership changes sparked by President Donald Trump’s surprise endorsement of former chair John Wahl for lieutenant governor. Wahl stepped down and launched his campaign, leaving the seat at the helm open. Former House Majority Leader Rep. Scott Stadthagen, R-Hartselle, took over as chair, and Rep. Paul Lee, R-Dothan, assumed leadership of the party’s House caucus.
“Reid brings an impressive combination of experience, judgment and leadership to the Alabama Republican Party, and we’re extremely excited to welcome him to our team,” Stadthagen said in a statement. “He has the experience and steady leadership we need at an important time for our Party and we’re really looking forward to all that he’ll accomplish as part of the ALGOP team.”
Harris will oversee the party’s day-to-day operations in the new role as the ALGOP prepares for the upcoming general election on Nov. 3.
He earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he worked as senior editor of the Alabama Law Review. His undergraduate degree is from Vanderbilt University.
