MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Mary Sell, a reporter and editor at Alabama Daily News since 2019, will leave the company next month, ADN Publisher Todd Stacy announced Thursday.
Sell is joining Birmingham-based Big Communications as senior business editor.
“It goes without saying we will miss Mary tremendously,” Stacy said. “She has helped build Alabama Daily News into the respected publication that it is today and I’ll always be grateful for her taking a chance on me seven years ago. She has also been an incredible mentor to our young journalists over the years.
“Our whole team wishes Mary the best in this new opportunity as we build upon the foundation she help lay here at the Daily News.”
Prior to joining ADN, Sell spent nearly seven years covering the Alabama State House and Capitol for the Decatur Daily and TimesDaily in north Alabama. She also covered business for the Montgomery Advertiser before pivoting to political coverage.
“Most of my professional career has centered on explaining how the politics and processes in Montgomery affect everyday Alabamians,” Sell said. “I’m immensely proud of how this ADN team has grown over the past seven years and stayed true to Todd’s original mission: Telling people what happened, why it matters and what’s next.”
“Working for ADN has been the highlight of my journalism career and this team is family.”
Sell’s new role includes working with several of Big Com’s government agency clients, including the Alabama Department of Commerce and its Made In Alabama brand and the recently restructured Alabama Department of Workforce.
“Telling interesting and compelling stories about people has always been my favorite part of reporting,” Sell said. “Joining Big Com is an opportunity for me to tell stories about Alabama’s successes and the people driving its growth and development. And I look forward to continuing in this new role the relationships developed over the past 15 years.”
Sell will join Big Com in mid-April.
