Alabama A&M hits record enrollment for third year in a row

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama A&M University has set another enrollment record, with 7,808 students registered for the fall semester – the highest in the school’s 150-year history and a 7% increase over last year.

The growth marks the third consecutive year of record enrollment at the state’s largest historically Black university. The increase is driven by strong recruitment, new academic offerings and continued investment in campus facilities, according to university officials.

“This growth is not by chance. It’s the outcome of a deep commitment to student success,” AAMU President Daniel Wims said. “We’ve invested in academic programs that meet workforce needs, in the physical transformation of our campus, and in the experiences that make Alabama A&M a place where students want to be.”

The university enrolled 2,825 new students this fall, contributing to the overall rise. Officials said the increase reflects the university’s growing appeal as a “destination campus” offering both academic and cultural opportunities.

“It’s an exciting time at Alabama A&M,” Vice President of Student Affairs Braque Talley said. “On campus right now, you see the construction of our new student amenities building. A new state-of-the-art facility is taking shape. The complete transformation of two residential halls will expand on-campus living.”

Provost John Jones said faculty and administrators have worked to expand programs that meet students’ needs and strengthen the university’s academic foundation.

“Our faculty and academic leaders have worked intentionally to expand opportunities that align with today’s students and tomorrow’s workforce,” Jones said. “From new academic programs and research initiatives to growing online and graduate offerings, our efforts are centered on access, excellence, and student achievement.”

The record-setting year coincides with AAMU’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, which includes new outreach and fundraising initiatives tied to the #AAMU150 Campaign.
