MONTGOMERY, Ala. – U.S. Senator Katie Britt is contributing $10,000 from her Alabama First leadership committee to Rhett Marques’ congressional campaign.
Marques, R-Enterprise, announced Thursday he is seeking the Republican nomination for Alabama’s 1st District. Current Congressman Barry Moore is running for Senate.
Britt, who also hails from Enterprise, said she is eager to see Marques become part of the Alabama congressional delegation.
“Rhett is a great friend and a strong conservative fighter who has always had my back and President Trump’s,” Britt said in a statement.
“Having been born and raised in Baldwin County and then having raised his own family in the Wiregrass, Rhett is uniquely positioned to champion the priorities and values of this incredible district. I am excited about the fresh leadership Rhett is bringing to the table and congratulate him on launching his campaign for Congress. I have no doubt that the First Congressional District will thrive with Rhett at the helm.”
$10,000 is the maximum amount that can be contributed to a candidate from a leadership political action committee.
Former Congressman Jerry Carl, who represented the 1st District until last year, is also running in the Republican primary. The election is May 19.
