Coleman up on TV, radio with first campaign ad

By TODD STACY, Alabama Daily News

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The first campaign ad of the race for Alabama’s 2nd District is airing today. Jeff Coleman, the Dothan businessman who officially launched his campaign for Congress earlier this month, is up on television with a new spot titled “Movin and Shakin.”

The ad, which is a 30-second adaptation of Coleman’s longer launch video, is running on broadcast and cable stations in the Montgomery and Dothan markets. An audio version is also running on radio throughout the 2nd District, according to the Coleman campaign.

According to the Coleman campaign, the spot as 1,000 gross ratings points behind it between the two markets over the span of the next two weeks. Gross ratings points are used by advertisers to measure how much of an a market is likely to see an ad and how frequently they see it. Those calculations are internal and depend on the channels and audiences selected, but 1000 gross ratings points represents a relatively heavy advertising buy, particularly this early in the cycle.

“We’re proud of the early, robust support that allowed us to get our message up across the district before the end of the year,” Campaign Manager Dalton Dismukes told Alabama Daily News. “Jeff has a great story to tell — a conservative, political outsider leading a booming, homegrown Alabama business — and we’re excited for voters to get to know him.”

Coleman should have the resources to afford healthy advertising buys. He outpaced all other 2nd District candidates in the 3rd Quarter fundraising period by hauling in almost $1 million, half raised from contributors and half loaned himself.
