1 dead; trooper, 2 others wounded in shooting

One person was killed and three others, including an Alabama trooper, were wounded in an officer-involved shooting Sunday evening in Escambia County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation around 6:30 p.m. Sunday on I-65’s mile marker 101 in Conecuh County.

The driver attempted to elude and a pursuit ensued and continued into Escambia County, where the vehicle eventually left the roadway, according to ALEA.

Once off the roadway an officer-involved shooting occurred. One person is dead and two others were injured and transported to a local area hospital for treatment, ALEA said in a written statement.

The trooper was also struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital.  No other information was immediately available early this morning.

Special Agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation are investigating. The findings will be turned over to the Escambia County District Attorney’s Office.
