Derek Trotter, a top staff member of Alabama Senate leadership for more than a decade, now works for the Bradley Arant Boult Cummings firm.
Starting today, Trotter, who announced his departure from the State House earlier this month, is a senior advisor in Bradley’s governmental affairs and economic development practice groups.
In a statement to Alabama Daily News, Bradley Chairman of the Board and Managing Partner Jonathan Skeeters said the firm is excited to welcome Trotter.
“With former chiefs of staff to a governor, speaker of the House, and president pro tempore of the Senate, our Alabama team’s experience operating at the highest levels of state government is unmatched,” Skeeters said.
Until last week, Trotter was the chief of staff for Senate President Pro Tem Greg Reed, R-Jasper. Replacing Trotter as chief of staff is Tim Howe, a former owner of Yellowhammer Multimedia and former executive director of the Alabama Republican Party.
Trotter’s previous roles include legislative affairs director for the governor’s office and communications director for the pro tem’s office.
“We are confident that Derek’s decade-and-a-half of experience in state government will
provide significant value for our clients and contribute to future growth,” said David Stewart,
Bradley’s governmental affairs practice group leader.
Other former Montgomery staffers on the Bradley team include Josh Blades, who was once chief of staff to the Alabama Speaker of the House, and Dave Stewart, who was chief of staff to former Gov. Bob Riley.
Former U.S. Rep. Martha Roby is also a senior advisor in Bradley’s governmental affairs and economic development practice groups.
Bradley has offices in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the District of Columbia and more than 500 lawyers on staff. According to the firm, its governmental affairs practice group assists clients in navigating state and local government. It represents clients on matters related to appropriations, banking, construction, economic development, healthcare, real estate, procurement, taxation, technology and transportation.
