Poll: DeBoer starts honeymoon, while Freeze’s continues

In our recent polling with Gray Television, we didn’t just stick to politics. We also polled about what really matters in Alabama: college football.

The Cygnal poll surveyed a GOP primary sample asking whether they were Auburn or Alabama fans. Then, asking only those loyal to their team, tested the approval ratings of the head coaches: Brand new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, who is replacing one of the most accomplished coaches of all time in Nick Saban, and Auburn coach Hugh Freeze, who’s first year on the Plains had its ups and downs, but finished with a top ten recruiting class.

Breaking down the fan bases, 55.1% said they are Alabama fans, while 25.8% said they were Auburn fans.

Of those Alabama fans, 62.6% said they approved of the recent hire of DeBoer to replace Saban, while just 4.3% disapproved.

On the Auburn side, 54.6% approve of the way Hugh Freeze is handling his job as head football coach one year into his tenure, while just 6.6% said they disapprove.

The poll from Cygnal surveyed 515 likely Republican primary voters and has a margin for error of 4.31%.
